In early September I had the fortune of going to Sardinia, Italy.  There are so many reasons to visit this beautiful island but I went for two things, to weave and also to visit some of the Domas de Janas (House of the Fairies or House of the Witches).  The story is that the fairies gave weaving to the Sardinians and they weave what is called pibione, meaning a cluster of grapes in the Sardinian language, and are the little bumps that make up the design.  There is a village in the mountains called Samugheo where Suzanna, Isabella and Anna Frongia weave the most beautiful pibiones!  They graciously spent the day with me teaching me how to weave the way that they do.  What a day!  To say these ladies are a treat is a huge understatement!  They do not speak English and I speak a VERY small amount of Italian but with translation apps at hand we made it work and laughter really IS a universal language.  The pictures below capture only a small part of the day but you know, it was so easy to be fully present that I forgot to take more photos.  Next time ;).  The last few pictures aren’t from weaving but are of the Domas de Janas that I went to.
