Florence, Italy 2019
After my first visit to Lisio I knew that at some point I would go back to continue to learn the art of weaving velvet with fine silk threads. Going back I knew what to expect and thought that I would basically just slip right into the weaving without much trouble. Most of that was true. Well, some of that was true.
Working out my design on the computer.
Ready to punch my cards!
My printed graph paper design with my cardboard, ready to go punch my pattern!
Once again I brought my punched cards to be laced together.
The laced cards were put onto the loom and then I was able to get weaving! I pretty quickly found a couple spots where I had not punched correctly and had to take some time to fix those spots. Eventually I was back on track and could see my pattern taking shape!
You can see in the weaving where I played around with different colored wefts.
In the end I found that I liked my design, but I think that I would have preferred the scale to be smaller. There was a lot of open space and also very tiny velvet areas that I would have liked to be more balanced. I am so happy to have had the opportunity to weave a second sample and look forward to the next time I am there!
