Velvet Weaving

I had the amazing opportunity to dip my toe into the world of silk velvet weaving at the seat of its creation, Italy. The Fondazione Arte della Seta Lisio in Florence, Italy was founded by Fidalma Lisio to continue the work of her father, Giuseppe Lisio. This would insure that the high quality handwoven fabrics would continue to be produced, her enterprise also included a school where students from all over the world have come to learn these techniques. This is how I was able to learn to velvet weave in Italy on beautiful Italian Jacquard looms. The experience was absolutely unique and amazing. The photos below do not do justice to the experience but are merely a small window into my experience.
